Guest:
Guest:
Guest:
Guest: ?
Guest:
Guest:
Guest:
Guest:
Guest:
Guest: OK,
Guest:
Guest:

sarah: Hi
IMaPITTlibrarian: hi
sarah: I’m not quite familiar with the online resource of ULS, could you tell me where to find a list of them?
IMaPITTlibrarian: Start at the library homepage www.library.pitt.edu and click FIND ARTICLES
sarah: OK, then?
IMaPITTlibrarian: In the tan box to the right click Databases a to z
IMaPITTlibrarian: you’ll get to a list of all of the databases.
IMaPITTlibrarian: If you want to check to see if we get a specific journal electronically,
IMaPITTlibrarian: click EJOURNALS (not databases a to z) and enter the journal name
sarah: OK, what kind of users can have access to databases or ejournals?
IMaPITTlibrarian: If you are looking for ebooks, go to ebrary or NetLibrary or SafariTechBooks and you can search for titles
IMaPITTlibrarian: If you are a current pitt affiliate–student, staff, or faculty, then you can access fromt hel ibrary or by logging in remotely at https://sslvpn.pitt.edu
sarah: I see, so all I need is my Pitt username and password?
IMaPITTlibrarian: Yes. When you enter through the VPN address you will be asked for your Pitt username and password.
sarah: OK. I’m writing a paper on the comparison between EU and Chinese copyright laws, could you recommend some databases?
IMaPITTlibrarian: hmmm…just a sec
sarah: Thanks
IMaPITTlibrarian: here’s a strategy or two.
IMaPITTlibrarian: when you click FIND Articles, then go to the subject list and click on Law and Legal Studies (don’t click the textbox, clik on the database name and then connect)
IMaPITTlibrarian: You’ll get to a list of great law databases. LegalTrac, Academic(LexisNexis) are good choices.
IMaPITTlibrarian: are you a law student, by any chance?
sarah: No, I’m not
IMaPITTlibrarian: okay. just checking. If you want to search some EU publications…go to databases a to z and click Archive of European Integration AEI is an electronic repository and archive for research materials on the topic of European integration and unification
sarah: Great! That really helps a lot. One more question, is digsby developed by ULS or is it some kind of commercial software Pitt paid for?
IMaPITTlibrarian: hmmm…I believe that we have selected it and adapted it to our environment. I can refer you to a librarian who can tell you more specifically about it.
sarah: That would be great.
IMaPITTlibrarian: If you give me your pitt email I can email her and copy you on it.
sarah: OK, it’s
sarah: And who’s the librarian I’m going to talk to?
IMaPITTlibrarian: okay. I will email you soon. Elizabeth Mahoney is the librarian that I’m referring you to. She can tell you the basics of Digsby here at Pitt. Is there anything more specifically that you’re interested in?
sarah: No, that’s all. Thank you very much. Have a nice day.
IMaPITTlibrarian: you’re welcome.
IMaPITTlibrarian: Have a nice day too–stay warm
